Alyssa Rock

(she/her)
Undergraduate Student

Alyssa is an undergraduate student in her second year at McGill University, majoring in Psychology. She is Innu and Naskapi from the community of Maliotenam, and her lived experiences deeply inform her academic and professional focus. Alyssa currently works in street outreach with the Native Friendship Centre of Montreal, where she supports urban Indigenous populations through harm reduction, crisis intervention, and cultural connection. Her interests lie in Indigenous mental health, intergroup relations, and community-driven approaches to wellness. This summer, she is working under the supervision of Dr. Vidya Iyer and plans to pursue medical school through McGill’s Indigenous Pathway, with the goal of becoming a psychiatrist. Outside of academics, Alyssa enjoys reading literary classics, practicing pole fitness, and spending time outdoors.

McGill University and the Douglas Research Centre are on land which has long served as a site of meeting and exchange amongst Indigenous peoples, including the traditional territory of the Kanien'kehá:ka, one of the founding nations of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. We respect the continued connections with the past, present and future in our ongoing relationships with Indigenous and other peoples within Tiohtià:ke/Montréal and across the country.
