BA in Psychology & Sociology (in progress)

Leyla is entering her third year of Bachelor of Arts at McGill University, where she is pursuing a double major in psychology and sociology, along with a minor in behavioural science. Coming from a European background, her passion for mental health emerged through witnessing the impact of bullying among children and adolescents. Motivated by these experiences, she initiated a project in a primary school aimed at providing support and resources to both children experiencing bullying and those engaging in bullying behaviours. Since then, her passion has grown through her involvement in a variety of community initiatives including eating disorder centres, homeless shelters, animal therapy centres and hospitals. She also volunteers in research for the Eating Disorder Continuum, working on a validity of questionnaires project. After completing her undergraduate studies, Leyla intends to pursue graduate education with the goal of becoming a clinical psychologist where she hopes to specialize in youth delinquency.

McGill University and the Douglas Research Centre are on land which has long served as a site of meeting and exchange amongst Indigenous peoples, including the traditional territory of the Kanien'kehá:ka, one of the founding nations of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. We respect the continued connections with the past, present and future in our ongoing relationships with Indigenous and other peoples within Tiohtià:ke/Montréal and across the country.
