Abbie Carnahan

(she/her)
Undergraduate student
BA in Psychology

Abbie is entering her fourth year at McGill University, pursuing a BA degree in psychology with a double minor in behavioural sciences and sociology. Coming from the Cayman Islands, she discovered her passion for mental health through her involvement on the National Artistic Swimming team, as a coach and athlete. This passion has further grown through her experience volunteering with various child psychology clinics, schools, and community-building initiatives on island. Abbie is particularly interested in the implementation of youth mental health interventions and the factors that influence engagement with these kinds of services. Upon completing her degree, Abbie hopes to return to her hometown to contribute to the burgeoning field of child psychology and to meet the needs of Caymanian children and families struggling with mental health.

McGill University and the Douglas Research Centre are on land which has long served as a site of meeting and exchange amongst Indigenous peoples, including the traditional territory of the Kanien'kehá:ka, one of the founding nations of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. We respect the continued connections with the past, present and future in our ongoing relationships with Indigenous and other peoples within Tiohtià:ke/Montréal and across the country.
